Thursday's tragic mass shooting here at Fort Hood was a trying time for us all. My husband who was about a mile away from the building from the shooting when it began was locked down. I was at home by myself. When news of what happened got to me, 3 minutes before our sirens went off, I ran next door to our neighbor's still in my pjs, not wanting to be alone. As time passed not much was being told on the news, and rumors had been spread saying that there was more than one shooter and that they were slowly working their way towards our housing area. Although this never happened all we could do was sit, terrified, and watch the news. Thankfully, Sgt. Kimberly Munley shot and disabled the gunman, Major Nidal Hasan making it impossible for him to continue his outrageous and calculated rampage. Both my husband and I are safe. Continued prayers and support for those who died and their families along with the wounded are greatly appreciated. These men and women gave their lives to serve our country and were mercilessly gunned down in the one place they felt safe. The shock that this could even happen here still plagues me. Nothing like this should ever have happened on American soil, much less on an Army base where many thousands of soldiers call home.
